Rehoming Alpacas in Queensland

Alpacas are gentle, curious and a lot more work than most people expect: yearly shearing, toenail trims, and they really need company. If you need to find a new home for your alpacas in Queensland, here's what helps, and how we can help.

Before you rehome an alpaca

  • Rehome them in pairs or groups. Alpacas are herd animals and shouldn't live alone. If you have a bonded pair or small herd, keep them together.

  • Share the care history. Age, sex (and whether males are castrated), last shearing, vaccinations, drenching and any health issues.

  • Be honest about handling. Will they halter and lead? Are they used to being caught for shearing and nail trims?

  • Check the paperwork. In Queensland, people who keep alpacas need to be registered as a biosecurity entity. Check Business Queensland for the current rules.

Free alpaca rehoming at Hidden Camp

Hidden Camp is a 169-acre family farm in Glenwood, QLD, between Gympie and Maryborough. We'd love to welcome alpacas to the mob. We take them in for free, pairs and small herds included, and they stay for life, with plenty of grass and a family who'll make sure the shearing gets done.

  • Get in touch. Call or text Callan on 0478 116 143, or send us a message on our rescue and rehoming page.

  • Tell us about them. How many, ages, sexes and a couple of photos help us check we have the right space.

  • Sort out the move. Drop-off is easiest. Callan can sometimes collect, depending on the animal, distance and timing.

Areas we help

We're in Glenwood, between Gympie and Maryborough, and regularly hear from people in Gympie, Tiaro, Maryborough, Hervey Bay, Tin Can Bay, Rainbow Beach, Noosa and the Sunshine Coast. Further afield, like Brisbane or Bundaberg? Give us a bell and we'll see what we can do.

Need to rehome alpacas? Call or text Callan on 0478 116 143, or tell us about them here. It's free, and no judgement.
