Rehoming a horse is a big decision. Maybe your circumstances have changed, you can't ride any more, or you just can't give them the time they deserve. Marvin, our grand old campsite inspector, came to us from a lady in Brisbane who loved him but no longer had the time to ride him or the means to keep him. Doing the right thing by your horse is nothing to feel bad about.

Before arranging a handover, please contact us to confirm available space and whether we can meet the animal's needs. Rehoming is free when we agree to accept an animal, but intake is not automatic and collection is not guaranteed.

Finding the right home

  • Be upfront. Share age, soundness, health history, vices and whether they're still rideable.

  • Ask questions and visit. Check the paddock, fencing, water and company. Horses are herd animals.

  • Put it in writing. A simple written agreement makes everyone's expectations clear.

  • Think about the long term. An older or retired horse needs space, company and someone happy to care for them for life.

Free horse rehoming at Hidden Camp

Hidden Camp is a 169-acre family farm in Glenwood, between Gympie and Maryborough. We take in horses, ponies, miniature horses and donkeys for free, and once they join the mob they stay for life, with paddock mates like Marvin and Kenny.

  • Get in touch. Call or text Callan on 0478 116 143, or send us a message on our rescue and rehoming page.

  • Tell us about them. Age, health, temperament and a couple of photos help us check we have the right space.

  • Sort out the move. Drop-off is easiest. Callan can sometimes collect, depending on the animal, distance and timing.

Areas we help

We're in Glenwood, between Gympie and Maryborough, and regularly hear from people in Gympie, Tiaro, Maryborough, Hervey Bay, Tin Can Bay, Rainbow Beach, Noosa and the Sunshine Coast. Further afield, like Brisbane or Bundaberg? Give us a bell and we'll see what we can do.

Need to rehome a horse? Call or text Callan on 0478 116 143, or tell us about them here. Rather help a horse from afar? Sponsor Marvin or Kenny from $10 a month.

What to include in your rehoming enquiry

Please include the horse's age, sex, approximate height, handling experience, known health or soundness issues, ongoing care needs and whether they have a bonded companion. Tell us how they load and travel, and send recent photos. A horse does not need to be rideable for you to ask about rehoming.

For every enquiry, include your suburb, contact details, when you need help and whether you can provide transport. Honest information helps us make a suitable plan. Please flag an urgent deadline when you first get in touch.

Can I bring an animal straight to Hidden Camp?

Please call first and wait for an agreed handover time. We need to check capacity, suitable facilities and the animal's needs before accepting them. Do not travel to the farm or leave animals at the gate without an arrangement.

Can you collect, and what if there is no space?

Collection is considered case by case and depends on distance, time and suitable transport; it is not guaranteed. If we cannot accept the animal, ask us whether we know another suitable contact. Keep their care arrangements in place while you work on a confirmed rehoming plan.

Call 0478 116 143, email hiddencamp@outlook.com.au or use our contact page to discuss your animal.
